Sridevi: First Female Superstar

The sudden demise of our legendary actor was a shocker to the whole country, we could never get enough of her but what is left behind is a legacy of some remarkable movies that made a mark in Bollywood and will always remain special to everyone who loved Sridevi. With a record 11 Film fare Award nominations and a commendable 3 wins, talking about some of her master stroke movies.


The first ever: Solva Sawan

This was her first Hindi movie as a lead actor. The movie was released in 1979 and was a remake of Tamil movie 16 Vayathinile. The movie revolves around a gorgeous looking sixteen-year-old girl and the impact that different men make in her life. She falls in love with a wealthy vet who is new to her village but turns out he is not that good after all. Her distant cousin, who is in love with her, kills the guy who tries to rape her and gets jailed. In the end, Sridevi is seen waiting for him at the railway station.


The claim to fame: Himmatwala

This musical blockbuster got her the infamous thunder thighs title and made her famous across Bollywood and popular among Bollywood audience. Himmatwala became the highest grossing film of 1983 and a massive hit.

The Cult Classic: Mr. India

Co-starring Anil Kapoor, Mr. India was the highest grosser of 1987 and a landmark film for Sridevi. She played a paragon reporter helping the invisible man (Anil Kapoor)  and eventually falls in love with him. The film was known for several of its lines and songs, including Sridevi’s Miss Hawa Hawaii performance, and Amrish Puri’s quote “Mogambo khush hua”, which is one of the most famous quotes of Bollywood and became synonymous with the actor


The national Award winner: Chandini

One of the finest movies by Yash Raj it was made on a budget of  Rs 2 crore, the film got Rs 5 crore to the box office. Not only Chandini can be considered one of the most memorable movie by our actor but it also won the “National Award”


The inspirational one: English Vinglish

Sridevi played the protagonist, who is a homemaker and faces mockery because of language handicap. She enrolls in an English-speaking course to improve her English skills and gains self-respect in the process.
